Robert Amador
Robert Amador is a painter based in Fresno, California. Raised by a mixture of decaying urban landscapes and the dusty valley vineyards as playgrounds, his first exposure to public art was the graffiti-covered, rainbow-like freight trains that would barrel through both worlds; it was a traveling art exhibition that anyone could enjoy! This inspired him to create his own graffiti art using terrible quality automotive rattler cans that would cover more of his hands than the surface he was attempting to decorate. That early love for graffiti mixed with his drawing obsession led to a lifelong love of art and an art journey that continues to this day. Amador has exhibited his work nationally and internationally, and painted public art through out the state finding that gallery art belongs to few, while murals belong to everyone. Amador is currently teaching mural painting to incarcerated individuals in California and continues to paint in a very hot garage studio.

Mauro Carrera
"(artists) may not have a lot of money but we still have our paint brushes; giving us our voice."
Mauro Carrera is a Fresno based community-oriented muralist and arts educator. He is originally from Yanga, Veracruz, Mexico and immigrated to California at a young age settling in Fresno’s Calwa District. As a young boy he was inspired by Latino/Chicano themed murals and his talents came through with help from a local Chicano muralist and teacher. As a muralist and arts educator, he has been able to engage in this process known as ‘Public Practice’ where art works in combination with art education, community organizing and mural paintings. Mauro has been doing this work for eight years and has has developed over 15 pieces in the Central Valley primarily in low income communities but also across the United State in places like New York City and Philadelphia. He has also worked with youth doing educational workshops as well as helped prison inmates learn to paint gaining useful skills once released from prison.

Tony Carranza
Artist. Educator. Entrepreneur.
Mr. Carranza grew up in the rural Central Valley, the son of farm workers. His upbringing and the political issues of the time help shaped his point of view as an artist. He is immensely active and a visible leader in the art community in Fresno and beyond. He is also an entrepreneur creating spaces for the arts, social justice and community. His experience as an Art Director and his dedication to social justice has allowed him to work with a long roster of community based organizations and change makers around the U.S. With more than 15 years in art/design he co-founded two organizations, Dulce UpFront and Somos Fres.Co which is a collective co-working space for the community where people's artistic talents from art, drive for social movements, policy, entrepreneurship to spoken work can gather and make their dreams in 'reality'. For his efforts in Selma he helped to manage the team of artists for two of Selma's mural, La Boca and Cho Family Mural.

The Late FranCisco Vargas
Influential Muralist & Artist
Even if you did not know FranCisco personally you knew his art. It is painted throughout Fresno and other towns in the Central Valley. He is responsible for the many iconic murals, such as the stamp of Fresno and the downtown mural on Van Ness and Broadway.
FranCisco lost his battle to stage IV cancer in May of 2015 however his art, his passion and his love for the community live on.

This website was created and is currently managed by Selena Martinez, originally from Selma, Ca. Selena was inspired by Selma's Mural Walkway in downtown and wanted to build upon the work of both Vicki Filgas and the city of Selma. Selena's vision was to take the mural idea to neglected parts of the community and address social justice and equity, in particular economic inequity. Selena drafted a thesis proposal as a part of her graduate studies in Public Administration at Presidio Graduate School in San Francisco. She is now bringing it fruition, please visit The 559 Mural Project.
